No matter if a couple is married or not after they split-up, the mother of the child born out of wedlock will always have the 100% custody rights. This don’t mean that the father don’t have any responsibilities to the child anymore. However, the paternity obligation can be established through custodial rights with the child. Legal arrangements should be settled between the parents to make sure that the father is obligated to support the child financially until major age. In this case, the mother can receive assistance from the father considering the child is under the father’s name.

In this case, being a single parent must know the certain rights and responsibilities that they need to provide for their children. So here are the full parental responsibilities and rights that parents should provide:

  1. Care for the child

The role of the parents in a child’s life is more than about paying bills, buying needs, and giving financial support. Letting both parents take care of the child is a strategic investment to make the relationship stable. Remember that the strongest need of a child is the parent’s protection, affection, and attention.

  1. Be the guardian of your child

It was a responsibility of the parent to be the guardian of their child. The parent must lead the child’s to proper education, provides medical treatment and other statutory rights for their children. You must guide them in the moral, social, and cognitive way of living.

  1. Contribute to the maintenance needs

The parent should contribute to the maintenance needs of the child. It is the right of your child to receive food, clothing, education, health care and other needs from their father. May it be financially, emotionally and socially, you as the parent of your child must provide and ensure that they were able to get whatever support that they need.

  1. Maintain intact relationship with the child

As the parent, it was your right to maintain a relationship and stay connected to your child. As they grow up, supporting and keeping in touch is important to them. There may be some instances that your ex-partner attempts you to block your communication with your child. Remember that, with custodial rights from the court, you can set your parenting time with your child. Just make sure that you were able to set up a positive conversation and fun activities during visitation to assure that you were able to maintain a good relationship.
